Working Principle
How It Works
A fire blanket is made from woven glass-fibre fabric coated with a fire-retardant treatment. To use, pull the quick-release tabs to deploy the blanket from its wall pouch, hold it in front of the body as a shield, then lay it firmly over the fire source to cut off its oxygen supply. For clothing fires, wrap the blanket completely around the person to smother flames. The glass-fibre fabric is non-combustible and withstands temperatures exceeding 500°C without burning through.

Keep It Ready
Maintenance & AMC Tips
Replace immediately after any use (single-use grade blankets)
Inspect wall pouch integrity and quick-release tabs every 6 months
Check expiry date on packaging — typically 7 years from manufacture
Store in original quick-release pouch mounted at eye level on wall
Train all kitchen and lab staff on correct deployment technique annually
Legal & Compliance Requirement
Fire safety codes and health & safety guidelines for commercial kitchens, laboratories, schools, and homes recommend fire blankets as the simplest and most accessible first-response tool. They require no training, no maintenance (beyond annual check), and can be deployed by any bystander in the critical first 30 seconds of a kitchen or clothing fire — before any extinguisher can be located and operated.
