Fire Extinguisher Refilling in Gurugram (Gurgaon): When to Refill and What to Check

Fire Extinguisher Refilling in Gurugram (Gurgaon): When to Refill and What to Check

In Gurugram, refilling is mostly a planning job

A fire extinguisher is refilled the same way in every city. What is different in Gurugram, which many people still call Gurgaon, is the kind of building it hangs in. An office floor in Cyber City may have a dozen cylinders looked after by a facility team. A condominium society on Sohna Road or in the new sectors can have a few hundred, spread over towers, basement parking and a clubhouse. A unit in Udyog Vihar or IMT Manesar keeps them along a shop floor where they are bumped, moved and sometimes used.

In all three, the hard part is rarely the refilling itself. It is knowing which cylinders are due, and getting them serviced without leaving a floor or a tower uncovered while they are away. This guide covers when an extinguisher is due, how a refilling drive is run in an occupied building, and what to check on every cylinder when it comes back.

When an extinguisher is due for refilling

The date depends on the type of extinguisher, and one rule sits above every schedule: a cylinder that has been used, even for a few seconds, is refilled straight away. The usual intervals under standard Indian practice (IS 2190) are:

  • ABC powder (stored pressure): typically refilled about every three years
  • CO2: weighed every year and refilled when the weight is below the rated figure
  • Foam and water types: typically every one to two years
  • Any extinguisher that has been used, even partly or in a demonstration: refilled immediately
  • Pressure testing of the cylinder itself: at longer intervals, done before the refill when it falls due

Signs that a cylinder cannot wait for its date

The date on the tag is the latest a unit should go for service, not the earliest. A one-minute look each month by your own staff or the society's maintenance team catches most problems. Send a unit for servicing now if you see any of these:

Our refilling cost and frequency guide explains each of these checks, and the pressure test, in more detail.

  • The pressure gauge needle is outside the green zone
  • The safety pin is missing or the seal is broken
  • A CO2 unit feels light, or weighs less than the figure marked on it
  • Rust, dents or a damaged base on the cylinder
  • A cracked, blocked or missing hose or nozzle
  • The tag is missing or cannot be read

Check the type while the cylinders are down

A refilling visit is the right moment to ask whether each extinguisher is the correct type for the place where it hangs. Rooms change their use faster than extinguishers are moved: a store room becomes a server room, a pantry gets a commercial cooking range, a basement bay starts being used for charging vehicles.

As a rule of thumb, ABC powder units cover general office and common areas, and CO2 units belong near server rooms and electrical panels, where powder would damage the equipment. Our comparison of ABC, CO2 and foam extinguishers shows which type suits which risk. A refill does not correct a wrong type, so ask for the type to be checked against the hazard during the same visit.

How a refilling drive runs in an office tower or a society

Zed-King Institute of Fire And Safety is based in Kaithal, so work in Gurugram is planned as scheduled visits with fixed dates, not as a walk-in service. For a building with many cylinders that suits the job, because a drive done in planned batches is the only way to keep every floor covered. The steps are:

A proper refill is a small overhaul, not a top-up: the cylinder is emptied and inspected inside, the old agent is replaced with fresh agent of the right specification, the valve and hose are checked and re-sealed, and the unit is brought back to its rated pressure and weighed. You can read more about what the service covers on our fire extinguisher supply and refilling page.

  • Count and number every cylinder, floor by floor and tower by tower, with its type and size
  • Agree the batches, so that only part of the building's extinguishers are away at one time
  • Use standing-replacement cylinders for areas that cannot be left uncovered even for a day
  • Refill and, where it is due, pressure test the cylinders
  • Return each cylinder to its own numbered location with a dated service tag
  • Hand over a floor-wise service report for the facility or RWA file

What to check when the cylinders come back

Do not sign off a refilling job on the count alone. Walk the floors once with the service report in hand and look at each unit:

  • The gauge needle is in the green zone on stored-pressure units
  • The safety pin is in place and the seal is new and unbroken
  • The tag shows the refiller's details, the refill date and the next due date
  • The weight of each CO2 unit is recorded
  • The hose and nozzle are fitted and clear
  • The same numbered cylinder is back at the same location, mounted at its marked point

Keep the record ready for audits and NOC renewal

Service tags and reports are among the first things asked for in a fire safety audit or at Fire NOC renewal. Keep one register for the whole building with the cylinder number, location, type, last refill and next due date, and give one named person the job of looking at it every month.

If the extinguishers in your Gurugram office, society or factory are due, or nobody is sure when they were last serviced, start with a count. Call Zed-King Institute of Fire And Safety on +91 97280 21149 and we will plan the survey visit, the batches and the dates with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should fire extinguishers be refilled in a Gurugram office or society?+

It depends on the type. ABC powder extinguishers are typically refilled about every three years, CO2 extinguishers are weighed every year and refilled when underweight, and foam or water types every one to two years. Any extinguisher that has been used is refilled immediately.

Does Zed-King refill fire extinguishers in Gurugram (Gurgaon)?+

Yes. Zed-King Institute of Fire And Safety is based in Kaithal and serves Gurugram on scheduled visits: the cylinders are counted first, then collected and returned in planned batches on fixed dates. For an urgent need we tell you our real travel time instead of promising an instant visit.

Will our floors be left without extinguishers during refilling?+

They should not be. The cylinders are taken in batches so that only part of the building's extinguishers are away at one time, and standing-replacement cylinders are used for areas that cannot be left uncovered.

What should the service tag show after a refill?+

The tag should show the refiller's details, the date of the refill and the next due date, and whether the pressure test has been done. Each cylinder should also appear in a floor-wise service report that you keep in your fire safety file.
